After the welcome reception, the faculty headed off to Rebecca’s apartment for a faculty meeting, which was really just an excuse to get together and talk about our first week in Florence. We were all charged with bringing a bottle of wine and a different dish: I brought dessert, Jane and Lanny brought a delicious homemade Tuscan bean soup, Toni brought a wonderful Asiago, Janet brought antipasti (anchovy-stuffed tomatoes, grilled eggplant, olives, and marinated tomatoes), Bob brought bread, and Rebecca provided the main course, a marvelous tortellini. Here’s a picture of Toni purchasing her cheese in a machelleria (butcher shop).
It was a lot of fun seeing Rebecca’s apartment, which required a climb up 71 steps. The apartment is really charming and in a wonderful location, although her girls, Keira and Leia, aren’t too sure about the psychedelic green walls of their bedroom!
